Jon's road to Lanzarote 2015
Hi Coach
I've loaded up my plan to take me all the way through to Lanzarote on May 23rd but have a few questions regarding the road there.
I have a great job but I have to work EVERY Saturday unless I'm on holiday , can I swap my Saturday/Sunday sessions around? I do have every Friday off though so I could fit something long there unless that'll crash with the Thursday long run??
Week 12 (looking ahead) is a testing week , I am actually going out to Lanzarote for 3 1/2 days (wedding anniversary and understanding wife) so I have the opportunity to get some warm miles in (currently between 0 - 4 deg C here) could you suggest something for the Mon/Tue/Wed days and Thurs morning??
Cheers
Jon

Yes, fine to switch Saturday and Sunday. Adding too much to that Friday off will clash with Thurs. For me, the most "extra" I can do after an IM-flavor long run on Thursday is ride my bike to/from my swim on Friday, about 1:10-30 total. But the Thurs long run and Sat long bike have that 48hr separation for a reason.
Don't worry about the testing in wk12, just roll it to the next week and run frequently if you can during that trip. If not, don't sweat it, sounds like you may want to chill with the triathlete stuff for a few days anyway
Thanks for that coach, I thought that would be the best solution but just wanted to check. The bike is already booked onto the plane for our short trip to Lanzarote over week 12, although it is our wedding anniversary while away it was the wife's idea to go there so that I could train on the course I'm going to race on (best wife in the world!). So I was just asking if there was anything specific I could do whilst there.
Love being back on TeamEN
Jon
Ok, I didn't make the connection that you were going to be at Lanzarote training, etc. Sorry!
If it were me, I'd get out on the course as much as I could (within reason, given that this is a anniversary vacation with your WIFE and all that, ie, don't be dumb about it) with my "course recon" hat on vs race rehearsal hat. That is, I'd pay very close attention to the grades and lengths of hills, locations of corners, road surfaces, etc. Learning as much about the details and technical aspects of the course so I can apply them on race day.
The training / coach-y coach-y goals of the runs and rides would be secondary to these recon, route recon, learn the course aspects, in my opinion.
