Scott Moir's Macro Thread

Coach Rich,

I'm in the January OS and am converting to HIM after week 8.  I'm going on vacation from 2/26-3/7 and will only be able to run and do some OWS (I'll be in St. John).  I'm writing because this is around the time that I switch from OS to HIM.  I should have brought this to your attention when I first completed my survey - sorry for neglecting to do so.

Please let me know how to modify my plan to factor this in.  Thanks.

    Hey Scott,

Please read this guidance on modifying the plans to account for travel, vacations, etc.

  • Scrolled through the tabs on the race spreadsheet.  Didn't see a tab for Challenge Knoxville Half.  Did I miss it somehow?

Please reach out to Brenda Ross about this, as she drives that train. There are many, many races out there and we often can't organize something for everything...but I have no idea about Challenge Knoxville.

  • Hey, Coach!

So I just wrapped up my first season with EN last weekend in Augusta. Not really sure what plan I should be following now. I did take a nice recovery week but don't want to do what I did last year...not swim or bike at all for 3 months. I'd like to be able to build upon the gains I made this year.

Swimming is my weakness so I've thought about getting some one-one-one help with technique during the out season. Other than that I just plan to bike a couple of times a week, run a few times a week, and do some strength training. Would like to boost my power on the bike so am wondering if doing some strength training in that area will help....you know...something other than just biking!

    Any feedback is welcome. Thanks!

    Hi Scott,

Please submit your race calendar to me for 2016 using the Triathlon Season Roadmap tool under the Training tab above. I'll plan everything out for you and give you my recommendations.

  • Coach Rich,

Looks like you got my road map switched with someone else's. The races shown don't mesh with the ones I listed for you. No worries, I'm sure it's an easy fix!

    Scott

  • Hey Scott,
Sorry about that! I redid this for you yesterday so I think we're square now. Good luck!
  • Coach Rich,

Because I know you don't have enough to do... Curious as to your criteria for assigning someone to intermediate vs. advanced HIM and IM plan.

Looking at my season roadmap you have me in the intermediate group for both. I'm consistently a sub-5 hour HIM and 10:30 to 11:00 hour (depending upon the course) IM finisher. This normally puts me top 10 for HIM and usually around 13 or 14 for IM.

How do intermediate vs advanced plans differ? Hours/week, intensity, or both?

    Thanks.

Sorry, my mistake in the TSR process you're asked to assign yourself an ability level, based on past races. I checked and see that you indicated advanced vs intermediate. Please load up the ADV vs INT plan, when told to do so in your TSR. Thanks!

  • Coach Rich, I just completed Raleigh 70.3 yesterday. My next race is Chattanooga Full on 9/24. My original plan for the year was Chattanooga 70.3, then Raleigh, then Chattanooga full. I couldn't get a Chatty half slot so bailed on that.

I was supposed to load a Get Fast plan before Chatty half, but just did the 20-week plan for Raleigh half all the way through. Here's my question...I'm heading to Boulder for vacation on Thursday and will return the following Friday (6/8-6/16). I can travel with my bike, but I'd rather not. Will I lose a ton of fitness by only biking and swimming while there? In other words, if you get a moment can you look at my road map and see if it needs to be tweaked?

    Thanks.
  • Hi Scott,

Just run as frequently as you can / want to and swim if it's convenient for you while on vacation. No changes need to your TSR, just do the best you can with your training when you're in Boulder. IE, just run frequently and don't worry about what happens with your cycling fitness. You still have a long way to go before IMChat
