djd's Micro

Howdy crew,

Switching over to my HIM plan starting next week on the road to Florida 70.3. That said, it's still bloody cold out so will need to prioritize here and there. How big of an impact/concern would you have on these? And any suggestions how to better manage it?

  • Thursday Long Run - CHANGE: cap at 90' (~11-12mi) by reducing the MP time. For example, next week, would do, MS: 65' (vs. 85' called for) @ z2/MP/Steady, 15' @ z3/HMP/ModHard, 10' final push at best possible effort.

Between work and the cold weather a 110-120min weekly treadmill run sounds mind numbing.
  • Saturday Long Ride - If stuck on trainer, per guidance will reduce/eliminate MS3. Hopefully in March more opportunities to get out above freezing!
  • Race Rehearsal Week 14 - What I wear in FL in April is much different than what I need to wear in NJ in Feb... so is it better to test out the GEAR indoors on the trainer, then hopefully as close to the full setup as possible in Week 18 outdoors? Looking forward to breaking in that new EN Tri Top!

Thanks much

    • Thursday Long Run - CHANGE: cap at 90' (~11-12mi) by reducing the MP time. For example, next week, would do, MS: 65' (vs. 85' called for) @ z2/MP/Steady, 15' @ z3/HMP/ModHard, 10' final push at best possible effort. Between work and the cold weather a 110-120min weekly treadmill run sounds mind numbing.  I agree that's too long for a Tmill...can we make it more manageable by splitting it up? Like an AM "quality run" as you have outlined...call it 75 minutes...then a lunch or early evening 4 to 6 miles on the Tmill...easy & loose. If that's not an option, your solution works.
    • Saturday Long Ride - If stuck on trainer, per guidance will reduce/eliminate MS3. Hopefully in March more opportunities to get out above freezing! Agreed...I am all about it and confident you can manage this no worries.
Of course, no worries!

    Thanks much

  • Thanks Coach P.

Probably going to stick with a single but shorter run session on Thur. Too early in the season to load up on two-a-days for me. image
Will see how it goes and what sort of routine works best in the coming weeks.
  • D2, love where your head is at. There's something about the "two a days" that starts to make things super real... image
