Ron's question
Hey Coach P,
I've been out of the run game for two weeks now with a upper hamstring tear, lucky me swim camp has been on my plate but I'm to jump into IM training tomorrow. I have been able to swim but run is a no go and bike I can bearly push 70% 30min(pain in ass literally). I have just started using elliptical yesterday with no pain.
To make a long story short, would it be time effective for me to stay in swim camp one more week then see how I feel next week? How many weeks can I miss of solid IM training before I have to question season. Boston is already on the edge of plate.

And, as you noted, the Boston question is what will "running" it do to your body and your season?
I had my first good ride today with little pain thanks to my bike shop giving me a different saddle ( Cobb 2 gen ) instead of my SMP which I love but previouse ride put too much pressure on upper ham.
Run is out of question right now and the ham reminds me every time I take a stride out.
I can use elliptical with no problem and swim.... Well I PR'd with a 17.02 1000m.
As of now boston, Texas and Tahoe are on my plate for sure. But as I said as much as it hurts Boston isn't looking good, maybe first half run on pase and 2nd half as walk run, Texas is priority.
1) Drop the run workouts, but get in the elliptical instead. 3 x 1 hour would be a great way to keep things rolling in the meantime.
2) PT it up...the flexibiilty and rehab is critical, no skipping these sessions!
3) Focus in on the bike and the swim...have fun with these sessions, and if you can only do 2 x Elliptical maybe we extend one of the rides to allow for enough aerobic exercise time.
Boston is so much downhill that your hammy might not really be a problem save for miles 17-21...but let's see.
I suggest you also talk to your PT about a good "warm up" you can do before a run so you know you are physically ready to run before just hitting the start button!
