Mike's Race-Week Micro

Hey Coach P,

 

I’m refining my race-week plan and wanted to run it by you.  It’s kinda unique for a few reasons:  I’m traveling closer to the race than I’d ideally like to, it’s a ton of travel time, and we lose a day flying over the IDL.  Tuesday literally vanishes.  Even though the race starts on Saturday in NZ, it effectively starts at 1pm on Friday East Coast time.  So . . . my proposed schedule below treats race day as if it’s Friday. 

 

Sat:      150’/30’ brick per plan

 

Sun:     Rest per plan

 

Mon:    Swim 1,600 per plan

            30’ run (3x3’ @Z2)

            Travel 24 hours, leaving late morning

 

Tues:   Arrive in Taupo around lunch time

            Assemble bike, ride 60’ course recon

            30’ brick run on course (3x3’ @Z2)

               

Wed:    OW Swim - Course Recon (30&rsquoimage

            30’ bike (spin)

            30’ run (3x2’@Z2)

 

Thu:     Rest

 

Fri:       Race

 

I thought about moving the two Monday WKOs back to Sunday, then using Monday as a Travel/"Rest" day.  Your thoughts?  Thanks for all your help getting me to this point.

  • Mike, so pumped for you! I think that you should make that switch so the swim and the run are on Sunday. You are beyond ready, we just need you to be organized, rested and smart!
