Kickr power calibration question
Should the Kickr power be calibrated pretty closely to a quarq powermeter? I did my first ride on it today using the "level" mode, i.e. not erg mode. I did 2x12' and felt the power was reading much too high given both RPE and HR.
Do most people find the Kickr power is within a couple of % or is it really a different calibration?

Matt - When I started with my Kickr in Dec, I immediately noticed the same thing. Compared to my PowerTap readings, correlated to RPR and HR, the Kickr was showing about 12.5% higher watts, as recorded by the same head unit (Joule). I can't compare the two directly, as I have no PT hub when I'm on the Kickr. The more important factor is whether the Kickr produces a consistent resistance when it's showing the same power # across different days. I have not noticed any issues with that, again correlating to RPE and HR.
Lots of info in this thread.
Right now, I am stuck on the trainer and use TrainerRoad, so the difference doesn't matter. When I test, however, I record the test with TrainerRoad for the Kickr, and my Garmin 510 for the Quarq. This allows me to calculate my FTP for outside rides (using the Quarq) and the FTP that I will use for TrainerRoad (using the Kickr).
The link Bob posted has some good info about Wahoo implementing a fix that allows the Kickr to use the power signal from the Quarq. That is promising and should equalize the differences. There are a couple of other fixes discussed in the ST discussion, but I am not willing to start messing with screws or taking my Kickr apart to implement those fixes.
