duathlon run length too much?

HI RnP,

I was starting my season with an Olympic length duathlon. I am a short course athlete. I did not realize that the run lengths were 6 miles and then ends with 3 miles. I have not run anything longer than 7 miles while training. I was concerned about the mileage jump of greater than 10 percent. I completed the November outseason and am currently doing a run focus plan. I run about 6 miles twice a week and another 2-3 as a brick. Do you feel this is manageable or should I pass? I want to avoid creating an injury I could avoid.

Thanks,

Eric

  • Eric, I know the coaches will way in, but I think you are going to be fine. With the type of training we get in the haus, I feel I am always ready to run a half marathon easily.
  • Yes, you should be fine...the runs build up gradually. That said, maybe cap the long runs at an hour? If you don't have the need to go longer, then get the Main Set done...build your fitness, but don't cross any lines? That would be my suggestion...
