Right knee buckling occasionally while going down stairs

This is a first for me.  It happened yesterday, and then again today....maybe on friday, but not totally sure.....

When it happens, I am also getting a slight pain behind the knee, slightly to the outside.  It is not tender to the touch.

Nothing new workout-wise.  Currently I am in week 8 of my fourth OutSeason.  The run test on Friday was hard, but nothing outside the norm for 5k tests, with the exception of doing it on a 1/4-mile(ish) track.  That was a first.  (I ran in the fourth lane just to make sure the 5k would not be 12 equal laps).

Could this, whatever it is, be because of the lateral stress of constantly doing left-hand turns for 12 laps?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

  • I have a similar pain that started during rehab from my hamstring problem. PT thought it was ITB but sports medicine guy thinks it is popliteus tendonitis. I had an MRI yesterday. I'm stil doing PT just no fully extended or flexed knee, swimming and biking and longer delay to return to running.
  • clicking and pain might be a different diagnosis than clicking/pain/and buckling.

But, I do think you may be on to something with the timing coming right after your first hard track session.
  • Thanks fellas.  I am going to keep a close eye on it and if no improvement will make an appointment with the doctor.
