Thanks Al, that is pretty aligned with my thinking. I have no sentimental attachment to Boston other than I'd like to run it, and I have already qualified for the 2016 edition so no issue there. I'm going to give myself 3 weeks before making the call, with 2 major milestones.
The first milestone is the half-marathon this upcoming Saturday. If I can't run a 1:25 feeling really good the whole way then it will signal either my underlying fitness has eroded or the injury is hampering me. Either way it is a deal-killer (and so is the emergence / worsening of any injury in the days post-race).
I won't bother listing the second milestone since I'm only rating the chance of hitting the first one at <50%. I think what will happen is that I'll do okay in the race but in the following days experience a combination of injury re-aggravation and DOMS due to too-low fitness going into the race, both of which will conspire to derail any hope of quality marathon training. <br /> As for the Ironman, I view the start of that training as June, after a solid 6 weeks of biking, biking and more biking. But I may be screwed out of the gate on that one, actually, due to a completely unrelated injury (see medical forum).
@Matt-glad you listened to Al and agree, my sentiments too. I applaud you for retooling your form and you are right, it will be well worth it on the other side. Golf lore has it that Tiger Woods took 19 months off to retool his game and, and then came back to be the champ he was
My week has been utterly crazy. Started with flip flopping the weekend and running the 10k sat and bike Sunday. Monday I had to fly to KC for a funeral tues of an 96 yo aunt. I did the Wednesday run on Treadmill late tues in hotel (ugh Matt, don't know how you do it). Hit my paces on the 400s and ended with 2mi @z2. Back home Wednesday
I didn't get any bricks after bikes wed and thurs (again both eve wko's) and left town thurs eve for a conference in Palm Springs. Again, did sun run on treadmill Saturday am, only time for an hour but did get the 2mi@z3 and 2x1mi @z4 done.
Now home and negotiating in my head the sat spin.
So, ironically this scottadale girl who always runs outside, reads about all of you getting outside this week, and I do my runs on TM!
Fun news for me, I just looked up my results in Phoenix 10k, 2/28, and I placed 3rd out of 40 in AG!
I had a wonderful long run at my soon to be local (we are moving to our "up north house that isn't " hopefully in June) metro park. Dogs, runners, bikers cross country skiers, sledders, walkers. Everybody out and about smiling from ear to ear, including me!
Got in just shy of 10 miles and felt really good through it all. Only downfall of this park is a section of a loop at the end where my gps always goes wonky. It's got lots of trees, and the pace jumps all over the place. I see a slow pace, pick it up then get a way too fast pace! Gonna have to get a handle on that for repeats and stuff if I run here more often.
