Power tap race wheel battery

So for my TT yesterday I put on a brand new battery for the power tap. Hadn't had my race wheel on the bike since my last race in August. Now the wheel is coming back off to be stored until the next race which is in May.

Thoughts on the battery
- leave it in the power tap- and assume it will be good on race day? Yesterday's race / usage time was about 65 min- next race will be 1/2 ironman. Then I'll prob ask if I should replace for IM choo - 4 months later
- take out the battery possibly use it in one of my other wheels when they need a replacement

My batteries have seemed to last a long time in my wheels usually I only replace for a big race

Thoughts??

  • Ann, you do realize if you hadn't asked this question, your battery would have lasted forever... now that you've put it out in the universe, it will die 20 minutes into your next key workout (FTP test, race rehearsal, actual race, etc).

In all seriousness, I tend to replace chain, PT batteries, and all wheel rubber on my stead about 2 weeks prior to game day (right after my last race rehearsal). Needed, who knows but it gives me a warm and fuzzy on race day.
  • I cannot stand training or racing without my PM. For that reason, I try to always have a couple backup batteries in my car for training days and always put a fresh one in the week of my race no matter how old it is. That may not be cost effective but for me it's worth the extra $5.
  • Yes Roy - I figure - now ALL my PT batteries will now go out prob get a dud batch of batteries too just because.... image
Thanks for the input. I figure with all I spend on everything else, whats a tiny bit more on the battery - always replace it before a race. image

Fun to just put it out there. image
