Got the 5k Corktown race done yesterday. Not my fastest 5k by a long shot. My mood was not the best when I saw the number on the scale to start the day...I'm up about 6 pounds from my usual training weight at this time of year, and 9 from race weight. Not good!
BUT...I did run hard. My legs felt kind of dead, but I pushed and ended up 6th AG and had a decent time. 25:44 for 3.21 miles. 8:01's which is 13" faster per mile than the Jan OS test. I bumped up a wee bit in Vdot from 38 to 38.6 so I am rounding up darn it! I never seed myself well at this big fun crowded race, so my first mile was quite slow compared to the last part of the race.
Finished out the day with our traditional Irish Feast and celebrating my baby's 18th with family. Lets just say the scale didn't budge in the direction I'd like to see this am, thats for sure.
Trish - keep reminding yourself that we're building the fast before the far. Plan A for all of us is lose weight earlier rather than later. But, reality says that we are still coming off of our winter tendencies, training hard enough to eat more, but not training long enough hours to drop the pounds. So, for the majority, we get stronger and faster but we still have a few weeks before we shift focus. Bottom line, those pounds will start dropping soon. Of course, just be cognizant of what kind (quality) of cals your taking in.
I ended up working 18 hours straight Sunday-home after 1am. So that was my training day off. I got a free day off today so got the Sunday run done! Hit all my paces, .5mi @z2 at the end for total of 75'.
My knee never hurt Sunday and felt fine today. Saw my ART specialist this afternoon and he released the IT band as it wrapped around the patellar tendon so hopefully no more issues!
