Fuel100 and Fluid Products

I came across 2 new products to me anyway this past weekend and thought they maybe worth mentioning... Both have plenty of sodium.

The first was from Fuel100 and it was these little salty crunchy pellets made mostly from potato starch, coconut oil, agave nectar...Thought they were quite tasty and an interesting alternative to sweet stuff!  Could definitely see some of these in a Run Special Needs bag...  Specially the salty/vinegar flavor.

The other one was from Fluid Products as the sports drink served on the Ultra I did last weekend...I drank quite a bit of it and was quite intrigued by a flavor that tasted like menthol or eucalyptus... I went over the website and could not find the flavor I think I had at the race... Sent an email into the company to try and find out... While I don't see myself switching to it as I do fine with just about anything and like to live off the course I did think it would be worth mentioning for anyone who doesn't get along with gatorade/perform and maybe looking for alternatives...

  • Thanks Tim, just ordered a bakers dozen of the variety pack of the pellets.....I like mix of solids and gels, but the bars get a little hard to dissolve/go down after a while, and the "quickly dissolve" selling point made it seem worth a try.
  • Thx. Bites ordered.
  • Please keep us in the loop folks...if it's worth pinging them as a sponsor, we will!

  • Quick feedback...after trying both products again...

The bites from Fuel100 have quite pleasant taste IMO... NOT sweet and offer a welcome change in taste/consistency... I can definitely see them in my Run SN for a change in flavor while still providing calories and sodium...... Another plus is they are dry and crunchy but you can put the little pellets in your mouth and they melt/dissolve very quickly...

After contacting Fluid they sent me some sample flavors.... Raspberry Lemonade, Blueberry Pomegranate , and a Caffeinated Tea.... I liked em all , but I have no problem with just about anything.... The Raspberry Lemonade is the one I thought taste like menthol or eucalyptus .... Heather didnt agree with me on the flavor but did agree it taste unique... I will probably buy some of that flavor for training but unfortunately I'm a live off the course guy so when its time for my IM prep its all about training with whats on the course for me.
  • How many of those little bites are in the packet to get 100 calories? Can't tell from the picture on the website but it looks like maybe 15??
  • i tried the fuel100 bites on my long bike last weekend.    i like them.           adds night variety.

not sure i would use them on the run.      have to be careful to inhale their dust.     but like you said, maybe i just need to soak in mouth before swallowing.     and not sure i want to be eating fat on the run.

  • @Tom... I counted 26 in the pack I opened today.. no problem throwing 6-8 in your mouth at a time...

@Robin... I hear ya on the Fat thing... But they say Coconut Oil MCT medium chain triglyceride is a readily available fuel similar to carbohydrates.... I eat plenty of Coconut Oil and find I digest it very well... However I have never had it during a race but almost always on my pre-race meals...

  • Cool.   so i will try on runs.       will be nice to have some savory tastes.
  • OK - I'll "bite"! I ordered a couple of 6 packs to try. I've been using Margarita Cliff Blocks during the run, but sometimes I'm breathing too heavy and chewing one is hard work. I especially want to try the salty vinegar to carry me through when my Pickle Juice Sport wears off. One thing is for sure...if I can suck down Pickle Juice Sport during a race, then I can tolerate any other flavor out there.
