Chappo's Macro
Hey Coach Rich -
Having raced IMNZ this weekend I am feeling much better than expected. Ok so I have the post race head space vacuum going on, I know that much. But I am not ready to finish my season yet and here is what I have in mind.
I will do my local Olympic distance race in 6 weeks time (April 19). In addition I am now very tempted to insert the ITU Auckland Olympic distance race in three weeks (March 29).
To achieve this, I will take this week and weekend off to recover (just some easy swim and spin sessions to keep the blood moving), then load up the Olympic distance plan on Monday set to finish on March 29.
Do you agree with that training plan approach?
After that - time to rest up and talk about the OS and next seasons race schedule!

Yes, I think that's fine. However, don't underestimate the mental cost of training and racing an IM. HIGHLY recommend you that schedule some down time to reset, maybe after that April race, before you start up again.
Ok so I need a training strategy to build up to ITU worlds in Chicago Sept 20. So 5 months away. It should really be the end of my season now, so I plan to take 3-4 weeks off before getting started again.
I plan to keep swimming and join the squads at my pool. The pool is next door to my office = no additional driving time. Swim is my weakness and is so much more important at Olympic distance as it makes up a bigger proportion of the race.
I also plan to go to some run workshops to see if I can pick up some technique improvements. For the bike I think more key sessions on the trainer vs road will give me gains.
The question is what mix of training plans should I look at given about a four month training window starting May 18th and ending Sept 20th (22 weeks). Should I go with 20 weeks of the Short Course plan, or some other mix of get faster and/or outseason?
Chris,
Please submit this to me via the Triathlon Season RoadMap tool, under Training above, so I get everything I need to plan this out formally for you. Thanks!
