Training WK March 16 - March 22 2015
It was a gorgeous weekend here in North Carolina and finally got to train outside! Perfect time to fine tune race day nutrition. The IRONMAN Raleigh course has been known to be a scorcher. Paying special attention to salt intake and nutrition. Now is the time to dial it in and practice every single chance you get.
Lets hear some noise in this group!

I spent last week in southern California where it was in the 80's and 90's. I got in around 350 miles of cycling which was awesome. What wasn't awesome was getting back home where there is still (a lot) of snow on the ground. Despite the snow the temperature was unseasonably warm and I was able to get outside for a nice 10k run.
Got the Swim/Run back to back done this morning. The admin in between was a bit messy but I made it work. Once we get more light back in the morning hours I should be able to just run the trails behind the YMCA strait from the pool set.
Oh- BTW, I'll be doing that practice ride in Raleigh on 3/29.
I only did the run today, before work. Still really tired from travel. Going to get some extra sleep tonight and hopefully tomorrow i'll be back to full speed!
The weather is still not really cooperating for me. With 25-30mph winds gusting 40 this morning's brick had to be reduced to a trainer ride only. Even running in that crap is just nuts and I'd have frozen going out dripping wet in the 40 degree temps. I'm hoping the winds will die down so I can squeeze in the 30 min run on my lunch break today.
One of the great thing about daylight savings time is the fact that it is light out later! I rode 90 minutes on the drainer and got outside for a 5 mile run right after. It was about 30 here and with my sweaty shorts on it was a little brisk. All in all though a great workout and my first true brick of the year!
Mariah- woooohoo! As someone who had knee surgery last year I totally understand how awesome those first few steps of real running can be. No need to rush. Listen to your body, if you can barely walk, don't do the run today.
I felt great about my run this morning. Pretty much nailed the workout as written. As I mentioned above, I had knee surgery last year and took a very conservative return to swim/bike/run approach. So it feels really awesome to be able to actually run based on a training schedule workout vs just protecting myself. You'll get there again Mariah- keep at it!
Cool! I'll be there with a girlfriend who will be doing Raleigh as her first HIM (not an EN member). My goal isn't to get in a workout but to really get a good understanding of the course. I hope we get to see each other there!
@Nemo, thank you for the heads up on the Big Day, I knew it was coming up but that's sooner than expected! Congrats on getting back to running well and nailing it today!
I was able to run outside after work today and although not exactly warm the sun was out and it felt great to be outside running rather than inside on the TM. I have a really hard time hitting the workout exactly as written so I did a progressive paced run trying to finish faster than I started. I was able to do that but the fact that I haven't run long showed up and the last 2+ miles was extremely challenging! Definitely looking forward to tomorrow's legs day off.
Today we have some fresh snow on the ground! About to head out for the run and will hit the trainer again this afternoon! Hope everyone's training is going well.
I pushed too hard during the ABP part of the ride yesterday and blew myself up a bit. Had .89 IF and 215 TSS for the 2:45 ride. I gotta dial myself into that ABP pace a little better and find the sweet spot between nailing it and cruising.
Run went well this morning and the legs definitely felt better today which is not usually the case for my sunday workouts. Bike went really well today too. was aiming for 2.5 hours and got in 2:20 including 100 minutes of mid to high Z3 work. All in all a good first week of HIM training for me except for not getting any swimming in. I will be hitting the pool hard starting tomorrow. Legs up!
