Posterior Tib pain
Hi all,
I've been seeing a PT for a few weeks now for an ankle issue that they say is posterior tibialis related. The pain (below the inner ankle bone) either manifests at about mile 4 or 5 , or will be non-existent throughout the run but appear post-run while walking around (either later that day after sitting at work or the next day). So far I feel like I'm in a holding pattern where I'm not getting any worse or any better. I can get through long runs (12 miles) pain-free and have about 24 hours of intermittant mild-to-moderate pain and then I'm okay.
We're going through all the exercises to build up strength (though - can't say I've seen much improvement yet). I've switched to the green Superfeet orthotics at their suggestion and we've also tried taping the arch. Both the orthotics and/or the taping have been helpful in keeping me pain-free during runs.
My concern is a HIM scheduled for May 8th. Generally, running after biking feels great (probably because everything is nice and warmed up), though of course I have not attempted 56 -> 13.1. I would feel "safest" taping the arch for the race to maximize support but I'm just wondering how the heck the tape would hold up over the whole race? Has anyone tried this? Got any tips?
Thanks!

kinesiotape is a possible solution. it offers support, but it won't be rigid like the current tape your PT is doing. It is however, water proof if you use an adhesive spray as your base layer.
out of curiosity, what's your PT session like?
have they done any soft tissue work or checked your shoe setup??
sorry for the million questions.
what about a run analysis? if the post tib is cranky something is definitely off in how you're landing and pushing off that foot. usually the foot doesn't come all the way down as you fully weight bear so you either have to keep it that way (which cranks the post tib) or you have to rotate the foot out (which also cranks the post tib).
