Training WK March 23 - March 29 2015
I ran across this blog from the EN archive- Might want to check it out.
Five Common Half Ironman Mistakes: http://buff.ly/1CddPiC
Even though we are inside the nation and know how to execute like ninjas, it can't hurt to read up, share with friends and add another level of information to our ever growing triathlon brains.
The magic of this team is the mojo, the knowledge we gain from teammates stories and the way the coaches keep us focused. Lets hear some noise in this forum, there are almost 30 athletes racing IMRaleigh- can't wait for race day and see all the EN mojo on the course.
Get down in there and lets have a great training week!

Thanks Mariah for the great intro.
I hit the pool this morning before work for my first swim in 13 days. I felt awesome for the first 200 yards!!! Seriously, my arms got tired real quick. I definitely have some fitness to build on that side of things. I got in 2800 yards in all so not a bad day in the pool.
After work I hit the road for a chilly 5 mile run. Due to the temperature it felt like my legs never warmed up/loosened up. I came home soaked in a hot bath, loosened up the legs and stretched and feel pretty sleepy right now!
Today I am hoping for no rain for my bike workout. Figure if I bring my 'rain' bike to work that means no rain and a harder workout since bike is heavier and harder gearing :-)
Happy training
I did the Swim & Run today in reverse order (Ran first, swam second) and that worked out quite well for me. I had energy to do the intervals on the run and the transition between was less messy (changing into a swimsuit while sweaty and then taking a quick rinse in the shower before hopping in the pool was a lot quicker/easier than the shower/running cloths transition for some reason). Anyway- I might do that more often.
I haven't found a reason to join Strava just yet.
Ran before work, swam after. Run was good, swim was meh. I got hungry 1/2 way through and not long after I ran out of gas. Definitely need to start fueling my swims.
Swam this am with my 920 - LOVE IT! Last week don't know what I did, but it only recorded 600 of my 2000 yards. Today, I actually looked at the screens and it shows so much like send off time, my interval time....so cool.
After work did hill repeats for the bike ride - used my 'old' heavy bike with fenders - figured if I brought it it wouldn't rain....and it poured about an hour before...then the storm passed YEA. No rain, 6 repeats ( .4 miles/ .2 miles) followed up with a 3 mile pain free run. SWEET......
Mariah - I LOVE run walk. did it for 4 years....and always fall back to it when things are going well with my run...either tightness, uninterested, bored...or what ever. I switch it up all the time. 1 min run/30 sec walk, 2 min run/ 45 sec walk...whatever I am feeling will work. Many runners hate walking...me - it's my fall back. I have had several PRs run/walking- 2:07 half mary, 5;03 marathon.
great work everyone!
I got another swim in before work today. Hit the bike after work. These Wednesday rides are tough. 50 minutes of FTP work! Hit all the intervals. Skipped the run, my stomach was giving me some issues.
@ann thinking about doing the run tomorrow run walk style- so far I've been able to run 2 miles without stopping but I believe tomorrow I am going to do the "time" but do a run walk interval- sure, why not, seems like a good idea.
During my swim tuesday I just kept thinking "WHY THREE SPORTS MARIAH YOURE INSANE" then laughed inside bc clearly 4 years in the sport its not new information or anything.
@john thank you again and welcome to the group, dial in, get it done, you'll crush it. Cant wait for Raleigh
@nemo Ive decided not to do my big day at Raleigh, not ready for the distance yet don't want to push this come back so Im going to stay home and do half the work and rest
@doug at your FTP i can't believe you can even type in the forum much less anything else- you're a rock star
@Mariah- I'm also a fan of run/walk, especially when coming back from injury. Sorry I won't see you in Raleigh this weekend, but sounds like you are making a good choice. I'm also not doing the "Big Week" this week and will actually be doing it next week instead.
I got the run done today, but it was not pretty. Due to schedule conflicts I didn't get to eat dinner until 8:30 last night- I knew that was going to be problem! GI was not happy in the morning. All I can say is, while there are quite a few port-o-potties along my running route, there was about 1 short in a much needed section towards the end.
Yesterday's interval run was good - today's long run not so much. beautiful day in seattle.
crossing fingers for a nicer weekend.
Ran a quick 3 miles this AM then bike this afternoon. I was going to do my first ride with a big group that rides on Sunday at 1:30 but I misjudged traffic and pulled into the parking lot just as they were leaving. I quickly got going and attempted to run them down. Evidently the big group (about 35-40) has several subgroups based on speed, I caught the slower of the groups and passed them but never got to the main group. Talk about an "always be pushing" ride... That was today. I rode for a solid hour and a half at IF .90 but all of that was above my FTP for my spring race last year. Swim in the AM.
I am transitioning to a more "barefoot style" of running and am alternating regular shoes and vibram "5 fingers" in an attempt to avoid sudden changes and subsequent injuries. So far so good.
First I set my alarm for 6:15 pm instead of AM. Got up 15 min late but made it to swim. Got 600 yards in b4 calling it due to overcrowding - I didn't sign up but neither did 15 other folks. The coach was totally overwhelmed and moved us 'slow' folks into the indoor HOT pool - must be 85 degrees in that pool, so I bagged it. No way am I swimming in that pool vs the outdoor pool. I know first world problems.
Headed out for my bike ride started to computer for the ride map which worked awesome!!! Except forgot to hit the start time on the computer- whoops. Better to not be lost than care about missing data 25 miles of my 56 mile ride. Beautiful route which included No rain, lots of wind, neighborhood tours and little chilly ride! After all that had a non eventful but fast 4 mile run. 9:38 avg. so there! The run was faster than it was supposed to be...but had a crappy ass 2.5 miler on Thursday instead of the long run...so was testing the run out.
Cheers to next week's training everyone!
Bc of schedule of the pool hours couldn't that in so instead of a rest day tomorrow Im going to hit the pool.
Couldn't get the trainer to show my HR- anyone else have that problem?
@ann - you're exactly right attitude is all about choices
@ralph- welcome to the crew excited to be training and racing with you again! Blue Ridge Camp is right around the corner!
Great work on the Big Day folks! I'll be making a go of it this coming weekend since I did the recon ride instead this week.
