2015 JOS week 12 Swim thread

So after getting in the pool once last week I forgot about my commitments Friday and could not make the pool.

I got back in this morning at 6am and the 2nd swim felt much better, not good but better.  1800M total and even got some more speed (relative term here) in the final 25M of the 100's and the first 25 for the 50's.

  • ACK! An OS swim thread?? LOL Guess I better reactivate my membership at LA Fitness and dive in. (Or gingerly slide in as the case may be)
  • Swim Drills and Swim Golf. 30' max today. Nothing but 25's. Squeezed in between an FTP bike and a progressive run.
  • My 4th or 5th swim this year - very lucky to have pool three blocks away here on base; did suggested workout with addition 500yd buoy set focusing on form ~ first one I've done of those in a good while; showed me that I have some work to do there. Paddles in the mail, so that should make things even more interesting.

For the most part, glad to be back in the pool; though that sentiment usually changes as we get into the hard sets during IM build period.
  • It felt good, I had my own pool for the 1st 20' of the swim. With that said, I had to "dress up" the planned wko: I did the w/u using a Finis snorkle. It helps to focus on stroke form while warming-up the engine. I did the 100's as written. I used the new TYR ankle buoy plus paddles for the 200s. I used the Finis metronome for the 50s, trying to improve stroke rate during the fast 25.

Unless its open water, I get pretty bored with "just" swimming in a lap pool.

  • @Kim after many of these OS adventures I never though I'd be the guy starting one of these threads let alone doing it two weeks in a row.  My last IM attempt I learned that you can swim too little 1-2X a week was that for me.  Plus I need a lot of work so I may as well get down to it.
  • 2400M at lunch as 2 rounds of 3x400. The first easy and the second harder. The first with paddles and a buoy, the second with just the buoy and the third 400 w/o toys.
Hit a 2km swim pr late last week and feeling reasonabley good 4 weeks out from Galveston 70.3. I have been swimming 2 or 3x per week during the OS but the intensity has been really low and the sessions have been between 2 and 2.5km. I have been thinking of them as recovery both physically and mentally.
  • I am enjoying my time in the pool. I have been swimming through the OS -but very lightly (1-2 days/wk ~easy 20-30 mins). I started following the optional workouts on the training plan last week and so far so good, except I need to make adjustments to my schedule getting to/from gym in time for work, as these workouts take up more time than my previous ones. But it's all good....

  • I had time to get 1200 in Monday before work-WU, 3x200 form focused, then 8x50-I like the alternating sprints better than the 100 builds
  • Friday am finally got the full swim in!
  • 1800 on Wednesday, 1400 this morning. All is well. image

  • First lunch-time swim today. Still dealing with a few issues with keys to locker rooms etc. It's a hotel after all. But I was determined to get in that pool today! Just did a couple hundreds and a couple fifties then grabbed a salad - back to work. Really feels decadent though, swimming in the sunshine across the street from my office! Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get started right away and do a couple thousand yards. YAY! AND it no longer hurts to kick. Ha! I win.
