Overtraining?

I just finished my getting faster plan and switched to the HI plan. I have been having hard time following the plan lately. I feel exhausted all day long and I have hard time completing the workouts. I'm not sore but my legs feel very tired - I have a hard time walking up two flights of stairs and have a hard time getting up in the morning even after 7-8 h of sleep. I took Saturday off and did the long ride yesterday but I could barely keep the power for the interval time for the first hour and couldn't finish the Z5 intervals. Same workout couple weeks ago was not a problem. Did anybody else experience anything like that? Do I need to take couple days off or just try to do the workouts as best as I can?

  • Anna, your body is trying to tell you something. Its pretty smart. The GF plan is no joke. I recommend taking a few days off, listening to your body, and then getting back after it when you are ready. Get 2-3 nights of quality sleep, eat some quality food, do something to keep yourself from obsessing about not working out. Digging yourself a deeper hole right now will not help later on in the season.

    Good luck!
  • x2 what Roy said.
Did you have a break after the GF plan?
I would have done 2 weeks of swim camp after GF to allow you to consolidate all that GF work.
Remember, it isn't the work itself that makes us faster.
It's the body's recovery and rebuilding after that work that makes us faster!
  • The only symptoms of overtraining you DONT have are being short tempered or grumpy with friends/family. Stand down before it gets there, per Roy.
  • Hmmm... Al, I couldn't comment on that!

    ;-)

  • Anne, to get specific direction I would create a micro thread if you have not already done so. Coach P will be able to give you specific advice on how to proceed.
