Training WK March 30 - April 5

I put a post it near all my triathlon gear that says "Strive for progress not perfection"

We are extremely lucky to be on a team that gives us all the knowledge we just have to apply it to our fitness level. What I love is that we are all at different levels but we attack our training the same way.

Thankful to be training with you all and thank you for letting us all into your world of training.

Have a fantastic week everyone. Lets make some noise in the forum!

  • Since I recently tested, I won't be joining you all this week on the fun and joys of testing! However, I will be using this time to make-up for missing the "Big Day" from last week. I just hope the weather cooperates 'cause last minute shuffles from Sat to Sun won't work this weekend with Easter on Sunday. Good luck everyone!
  • Oh the joys of a city pool. 1900 meters into a 2700 meter workout and the lifeguards clear the pool due to a "biohazard emergency." I'm not sure who the culprit was, but I think it was one of the little kids in the learn to swim class, although the woman in the lane next to me looked kind of guilty. After having the stomach bug this weekend, I'm just glad it wasn't me!! At least I got some workout in my first day of the HIM plan. On to the bike test tomorrow.
  •   Oh John, that's awful!!!!

There's a stomach bug going around down here that is pretty evil.  It totally takes you out for about 24-48 hours.  The only good part to it is that it doesn't seem to linger.  Once its over, its over.  I've been able to avoid it so far- staying clear of all the rug rats, but Easter may be extra dangerous this year!

Anyway- I did the Run/Swim work again this morning.  That order is working really well for me.  The only challenge is getting up early enough to get it all done before I have to be at work.  So far so good.

  • Helloooooo? Anybody home? How is the testing going everyone!? Anyone have a pretty new vDot or FTP to use?

I'm doing the big training week and keeping a close eye on the weather for the weekend. Tomorrow is gonna be a pretty day here but Saturday turns to crap. Grrrrrr!

My long run went much better this week. No need to rush to the port-o-potties along the way, although I did head strait to the bathroom when I got home.
  • The bike test on Tuesday went. Let's just say it could have been better, and my new FTP should not be described as "pretty." I tested very, very well last time for an all time high of 282. It was one of those days where everything just felt right. This test, not so much, and my FTP fell some. That said, I am sure I can build it again fairly quickly by simply hitting all of the bike workouts, which I had not done between this test and my prior test.

I will do the run test today, so we will see how it goes.

Glad to hear that there was no need to find port-o-potties along your run. Nothing like a port-o-potty to ruin your per mile pace!
  • Oh I've been there John! It's not that unusual to have a crappy test in the middle of this build up either. Good luck with the run test!
  • Tuesday test felt HARD!. At the end of the day, however, I was within experimental error from my previous test in the JOS just before swimcamp. 259 versus 259.3. I am claiming any increase no matter how insignificant at this point. Good 4 miles today but my D#$% Garmin doesn't find the satellites for 3/4 of a mile on every run of the same freaking route so it looks like I run a lot of 5K's at 5 AM. Oh well. Rest up for TT swim tomorrow.
  • I agree Ralph. Tuesday's FTP test (and the run test today) seemed extremely difficult. I know, it's a test and it's supposed to be difficult, but my problems were more mental than physical, I think. I had a couple of screwy days at work and just had a hard time forcing myself to do the tests, but nonetheless got them done. Tomorrow, we swim.

Congrats on the FTP bump. A bump of any size is still improvement!!
  • Yeah, it was not an optimal test day for me as well. I usually ride in the AM but ended up testing right before supper in the evening. I had tested within the last month and really should not have expected much but I have made significant FTP gains over the OS so I got greedy thinking I might get a bit more. Twas not to be. My next test will be the Blue Ridge Cycle camp and it will be a survival test. ??
  • Nice work on the test Ralph!

Welcome John, of course you can hang out here with us!

As for me, In serious need of a rest day. My Chronic Training Load score is now off the charts. The weather this weekend looks like it will be crap and it's been slow this week at work, so I made a rash decision and moved the Saturday Swim/bike/run "big day" workout up to today to get it done (putting it back to back with a long run Thursday). It wasn't pretty, no not pretty at all. In fact, I had to bail on the run after 10 minutes. Time to recover and let all that training sink in.
  • Swim test done. I had a 12 second per 100/yd improvement since my swim last test, which was mid-February. I'll certainly take it, and hope to keep the trend continues on the road to Raleigh.

    Anyone else swim testing today?
  • So I'm an idiot- I created the week forum to chat- didn't subscribe so I could get notices and didn't put my workouts- slap my wrist I'm a bad race captain! I had a decent week. Didn't hit all the hours I wanted but coming back I'm still proud of what I got finished. Did a local 5k on Saturday and my goal was under 40 minutes and did 36- slow as a turtle but thats the farthest Ive ran since injury. I promise I'll be a better race captain this week..... Y'all are rock stars
  • Mariah- I subscribed to the whole "70.3 Raleigh" forum. That way I get anything posted to the forum without having to remember to subscribe to each individual thread.
