how to deal with the wind (Patti)
I stayed in the box and followed instructions but was wondering whether power meter and effort match in windy conditions since I'm pushing down but battling a force pushing me back.... (direction of vector for power is down and direction of vector from wind is from front to back)
anyway, I'm thinking just stay in the box and don't worry about it as I'm not going to be able to push any harder anyway. took me 2 hours and 11 minutes going out. coming back took me 3 full hours. I needed to do another 30 minutes or so so I rode around the neighborhood a bit.... but that was just the cool down
so, more power or same power with wind? or just forgetaboutit

Now to add to the above great advice, let me just start by saying that I live with wind every day. The joke goes that on OBX, if the wind stopped the locals would fall over. My experience is that a relentless wind in your face adds to your overall perceived effort, even if your watts are exactly the same. So NP=180 for 20 minutes strait with the wind at your back just "feels" easier than NP=180 with the wind in your face. Speed obviously is going to be different too, but that's part of the mental game too that is contributing to your perception. You aren't going very fast with that wind in your face so you feel like it's harder work. You have to just shut your head off to the speed and focus in on the watts.
Normalized power and "forgetaboutit" and just look at watts.
It was a great workout and the concept about always be pushing took on a whole new meaning!
