Rant Against the Health Gods

Sometimes - things just don't go as planned.

I finished IMCoz, my third full in 2014, feeling great. I took the entire month of December without a training schedule, wrote a pretty detailed plan with targeted improvement areas... 2015 was going to be a banner year!

By early February, what started as a 'tweaked hamstring' had become a partial ablation... training stopped & PT started. Yesterday - after two months of strengthening and healing I went for my first real run. It was awesome! Until my shoe caught on a crack and my foot rolled...

It seemed OK... I negative split each mile the second half of the run. After my shower, my foot was hurting significantly. By dinner it was really hurting. This morning - x-rays say fracture.

Sometimes- things just don't go as planned!

  • See Bob McCallum. All of 2014. Hopefully you have no further issues.
  • Geez, that's disheartening. You do everything right, and still...
  • So there I was, in 2013, almost finished with a run when POP, I heard and felt like I cracked a bone in my left foot. Turned out that I ruptured my plantar fascia...like a rubber band breaking. Total suckage year. 2014 was mixed. 2015 is off with a bang. This too shall pass...better days ahead.

  • Rich, keep your notes, fix your body. Then get back after it with renewed vigor and care. Long view image

    Good luck!
  • Thanks!

I will spend a few weeks working on my core, then (hopefully) I will be on the bike. I had the same injury last summer... maybe I need training wheels for my running shoes!
  • Looks like I cursed the Gods too soon... Orthopedic told me the other doc misread the x-ray and what they thought was a new break was really part of the break that I had last year.

So - just chill out for awhile until my foot's guts feel better and then back at it!

    Nice to get good news!!
