Help: Training Peaks Gamin Connect Not Showing Power

Started TP Premium today. I'm used to the WKO+ software.

I went to uplaod my cycling FTP test today, I exported a GPX file from garmin connect and imported it into TP.

The file was there but it contained no power data at all. It contained the location, distance, and speed. But no power data.

The file in Garmin connect has data.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  • You need to export the .tcx file. A .gpx file is a type of "Global Position eXchange" file and only contains the GPS data. The .TCX file will contain that, plus heart rate, power, cadence, etc. For trivia buffs, TCX is the "Training Center eXchange" format.
  • Thanks Mike. The TCX worked perfectly.

  • Is there a way to mass upload old data (more than 30 days old to TP)?

If you have the data already uploaded somewhere (e.g. Garmin Connect or Strava), then you can use Tapiriik to do this as a one time process.  Note that you will have to give them your logins for both the source site and Training Peaks.  When I did this, I changed my passwords on both sites temporarily to something I would never use and gave those credentials to Tapiriik to use.  Once the transfer was completed, I went back and changed my passwords back to the strong ones I was using.

If all your files are just on your PC, then you will want to use Training Peaks Device Agent.  Device agent is typically for pulling files off your garmin / suunto/timex/whatever, but you can also drag & drop files into it and then upload them to TP.
