Quassy Training Thread

OK folks, we're getting within shooting distance of Quassy so I thought I'd fire up the Quassy training thread!  Most people are probably in their "official" Quassy training plan now, whether it be the SC or the HIM plan but thought it would be great to get everyone posting together here.

I'm in my last week of the JOS although no testing for me this week.  (Just did a bike test 2 weeks ago and my HM is end of April) Then I'll be transitioning to the HIM plan, but I'm not doing a HIM.  (I'm doing the Quassy Oly)

Last week was a GREAT week of training for me, exceeded pace expectations, hit bike targets and felt awesome, with the exception of the Sun. long run which was so-so.  I'll blame the conditions on the trail (still some snow and ice spots so had to run prudently!)

Who's next??

Comments

  • Anyone out there training? I've been pretty focused on anything BUT Quassy but the next few weeks will be Quassy-focused. (Well, except the next 2 weeks before my bike race 5/9 image

    How's everyone doing?
  • Last week I was in AZ for work so got in a 46-miler on a rented bike. 16 miles Tues w 27' total at FTP and short and easy 11 miles yest w total of 12' at FTP. Off today then another e-z ride on fri then bike race Sat! I'll have my GoPro so I'll be sure to share the video! (Assuming I'm not embarrassingly behind the rest of the racers!)
  • Uh oh. Today I got a taste of what I'm in for on the OLY/HIM double. Yesterday I raced a HM hard, today's plan was a 3.5 hr ABP ride. That was not in the cards. 3hrs at IF .75 was all I could muster and I felt like crap the whole time. I'm sticking to my plan to race the OLY hard and call the HIM a big, endurance, durability traing day for IMLP.
  • Tim- no doubts you'll do great in both!

I'm a little concerned about the swim as my shoulder isn't feeling great after my bike crash on sat. Not terrible, but just don't see myself swimming tomorow. I'll be back to the chiro this week to let him know I just undid his 3 months if work on the mystery shoulder issue....
  • @Kim I'm interested in hearing more about your process to rent a bike while travelling. I've seen DC Rainmaker blog about doing the same. Were you able to get a road bike? Or was it MTB, cruiser?
  • Charles- Sure! I've actually done it a few times this year... Once in FL then AZ. I basically Google bike rentals in the town I'm going to and go from there. I was able to get a road bike on both occasions. Both were Giants and were OK. (I actually liked the one in FL even though it was pretty lo-end) I think you can get higher end bikes for more $$ but depends on the shop. The one in AZ even delivered it, adjusted a saddle and picked it up for an extra $10 which was great since I didn't have a car. Roughly $40-$50/day but prob depends on the area and how long you rent for.
  • Great run last night around my hilly 'hood. Almost 1' faster/mile than the same run on Sunday. (Shows you the diff between hot n humid and 55 degrees!) Feeling ready for the Quassy hills!
