Do I taper for STG?

Per my roadmap, I am looking at weeks 11 and 12 of the Full IM plan, which naturally have more volume than week 19-20 of the HIM plan.

Even after 120 miles on the bike the last two days, I still cannot believe one is to run 26 after.

Please read this, guidance for inserting an HIM into an IM training plan.

  • That is helpful. I suspect traveling from Seattle will force me to taper some. The real question is this weekend. I take it then that the 6 hour big day I am scheduled to do on the IM Saturday (7days before STG) is recommended (rather than the 2.5 hour brick scheduled on HIM). I will plan to do the 110 min run tomorrow instead of the 60 min HIM Thursday work out

Yes, that correct. Follow the IM schedule through this weekend and maybe shift your interval sessions for next week to earlier in the week (and turn them down if you feel you need to), making sure you keep the intervals for your weaker sport. That is, if it were me (run is weaker than my bike) I would make sure I got my run interval session in on Monday and then bike intervals on Tues but maybe turn those bike intervals down. Then "rest hard" Wed, Thurs, Fri.
