Brian Harding's Micro Thread

Hi Coach Patrick,

Thanks again for the quick callback on Friday. I'm really looking forward to all that EN has to offer and I'm excited to learn from the experience here!

I used my trainer (Cycleops Fluid 2) and TrainerRoads for this session. My current LTHR is 152 and my FTP (VirtualPower) is at 264.

On the 16th I did a 20 mile RP in 54:03 and my HR averaged 150BPM.

Thanks again for all your help. Have a great week.

  • Those are some solid numbers...excited to work with you!
  • Hi Coach Patrick!

I have my first race coming up next week on the 7th (FINALLY!!). It's an olympic-distance (Leon's World's Fastest Triathlon) in Hammond, IN. I'm currently on the 2015 EN*Half, Advanced Plan and was curious what the proper taper would be for this. Should I pull back distances/zones starting Monday and wrap up my week with a light swim Friday? Any advise would be appreciated. I'm hoping to go top 5 in my AG so I want to be fresh & rested. Thanks Coach!

  • Brian, yes we generally have you do the normal week through Wednesday. Thursdays long run is dropped, and the taper is on.

Saturday would be a short bike and run (45' all in...30' bike and 15' run...all easy with a few 30 second efforts in Z4).

Friday is a swim workout, probably about 2000...I suggest you warm up like 800 with easy swimming and drills, etc. Then do 3 x 100 (20) with your swim start effort. Then pull 600 steady (not race effort, just really steady). Then finish with another 3 x 100 (20).

Thursday is a run sharpening session -- 45', first 15' easy, then 20' building from Zone 2 to Zone 3. Last 10' has a few strides in there and a cool down.

    Good luck!
