Charleston HIM
So I've gotten myself off the suicide watch list after the "almost" at NOLA . I'm going down to Charleston tomorrow to race the TryCharleston Half Saturday. Plan is to hydrate/electrolyte and redeem myself from the slooooow run at NOLA. Conditions look to be identical, so it will be interesting.
Will report in Sunday. Good luck to all IMSG ers this weekend.

William, I was seriously considering doing this event (for fun - easy swim - hard bike - easy run) while staying with friends in Summerville, SC. The ONLY thing that kept me from doing it was prohibitively expensive bike fees with the airlines that fly direct from NY to Charleston (Delta & one other). It would have been $350-400 for my bike, it just wasn't worth it for me.
It looks like a fun course. It would have been great to meet another EN teammate there. Good luck and Enjoy!!!
Short race report..I recommend the race, moreso than NOLA. Flat, hot, humid and windy...sounds delightful, huh ?
Swim was probably a little short, but the water was clear and fairly smooth...uneventful 2 loop layout. Out of the water in 35' ish.
They had wetsuit strippers, which was nice for a local race. <2' T1. <br /> GREAT bike course road surfaces, except for about 6 miles on way back in, which was "Paris-Roubaix" rough...really rattled your teeth, and was into a 15 mph wind, so tough stretch. Then back out on Hwy 17, wind dead on your nose, so that was tough...but hey, this is a coastal area race. Hydrated w/ Infinit, water and mucho Scaps, no cramping. Rode it conservatively at 80%, 2:25 time. 2' T2 and felt good. Computer clocked 57 miles.
Nailed MP+30" first 3 miles of run, then another, then another....heat and humidity just drained me. Bled minutes from there in and finished HM in just under 1:50 . Felt better that the fastest HM of the day was 1:27, everyone's times were slow, plus my Garmin showed 13.3 miles, the bastards....
4:53:17, another HIM PR and good for 1st AG by 45' over 2nd place ! OA I was 28th...
Went into the race not knowing what to expect but hoping to PR over NOLA and redeem my run. Didn't really accomplish the run goal..some heat/humidity and long course, but I have 2 HIM's where I severely under performed on run. I think maybe some progressive runs, where highest pace is late, on tired legs , may be helpful. Thoughts are appreciated.
Racing a some sprints over the next 2 months, then back into HIM training for Augusta 70.3.
Again, I recommend the race. Outstanding job for first year race...with a few minor tweaks it could be huge.
