Tish Collier RR # 2 IMTX
Awake at 5:00 AM for breakfast of 1 cup of applesauce, 1/2
bagel, and 1 tbsp peanut butter--that is about 310 calories. Add 24 ounces of
Gatorade and this is about 470 calories. Plan on sipping more Gatorade on way
to bike start.
Biking starting at 0700:
Saltsticks—1-2 tablets every hour starting at 15 minutes
into bike ride
1/4 powerbar every 15 minutes =120-170 calories ( I
have different types of powerbar products because I like variety, and they are
all sitting in my stomach very well!
1.5 bottles of Gatorade Endurance per hour=240 calories—This
is so hard to get in when it is cool outside. Low of 58 and high of 79 this
Saturday
This adds up to 360-410 calories an hour.
HR will need to stay
within Zone 2---while understanding that on hills, I will be working a bit
harder, but try to keep cadence the same and not power up the hills. I am on
HRM, not power. Smooth pedaling.
Plan is to get off bike for quick minute every 2 hours to
stretch back out--been having some trouble with left lower lumbar spine.
2 Tylenol at 6:30am , and 10:30 AM
This will be an out and back route, with some hits on some
pretty hilly roads.
When there are 20 minutes left in the bike, I will take a
GU, and sips of Gatorade from 15 minutes left on the bike---so as not too make
belly too sloshy coming off bike. Take salt pill a few minutes before getting
back to "T2"
Run plan is to again, take 1-2 salt pills every hour. Gel
every 30 minutes (will carry small 8 ounce handheld bottle of water with me).
Gatorade Endurance every other aide station (so at Miles 2, 4, 6, etc.) Remain
calm, and stay within Zone 1 +30 as instructed. Just keep moving forward.
Get home, shower and scream from chafing---well, I just
bought a smaller pair of tri shorts (so don’t look at my belly, just know that my
legs are more toned).
Will update after this weekend.

On your run, do you have a good feel for your heart-rate? Victor and Al T had a few really good points in my RR plan concerning heart-rate being more important than pace on the run, especially in a hot race like we've got.
As far as the chafing, maybe re-apply some cream mid-way through the ride? And put a single use packet of the cream in your special needs bag for race day. (again, a suggestion from my RR thread via Mike Roberts).
How has your gut been on the run? Do you have any issues jamming down the Endurance? If not, why not take it at every aid station, especially early on?
