Rock N RollMan in Macon GA Oct 10th

Thinking of doing this one since my May Half will become an international (if that, hamstring).

  • Stephanie,

I'm going to do that race, too.

It used to be in June and it would always be oppressively hot & humid. October should be much, much more racer friendly. As a non-WTC event, it will feel more like a grass roots event than a big spectacle. They put on a very good event, just not as crazy as WTC.

It's where I started all this mess many years ago. It always kicked my butt. Now, many years later with more smarts and fitness, I look forward to seeing how I stack up in comparison.

Also, heal the hammy. Even downsizing to the May oly could put pressure on you to run thru the injury when you could be letting it heal. I'm a big believer in resisting the itch to sign up for a race if my legs have an issue like a calf, achilles, hammy, etc. If it were an AAArace, maybe that changes things, but just because I'm excited about racing and it's time to start? Well, sometimes the injury may adjust that timetable a bit.

Hope to see you in Macon!
  • Rock and Roll Man is a great event! I bonked on the run a few years ago in the heat of June and started walking at mile 4. I swore I would not go back for the half until they moved it so I might sign up as well.
  • SC-

it always chewed me up and spit me out with that humidity. I said I would NEVER do that race again (3 attempts, I think). But, this year is all local and low key stuff. So, Macon is a perfect fit. I'll try to see if I can do better than the years I raced before and it should be a minimal SAU and $ cost.

I'm curious as to how the turnout will be due to the move to October. I expect they will get pretty good numbers for the many that want to train thru a full season to get their first HIM. And, it's possible that many of the fastest peeps won't be there b/c they will be peaking for all of the WTC races (IM and HIM) in the region around the same time of year.

It's your race to steal, Steven!
  • This is great! I'm putting this on the definite maybe list. I need to do one...but I don't want to go crazy too soon OR too late for 11/7 IM Florida. Also.. it's 9 hours, but I can drive.... so no bike shipping!

  • Steph,

A HIM one month before your Arace IM, eh? Pretty close. Your run will be the potential sabateur for IMFL. Run smart, in a way that will allow you to stay on schedule (minus a day or two after the race), and you'll be fine. But, it's def something to consider.

    Hope to see ya there!
  • Now with the hamstring issue I don't think I can do this one. Sure looks like a goodie though, have fun!

  • Heal up, Stephanie. Catchya next time!
