following training plans and ftp
As I have seen the light recently, my question is about using alternate methods of finding your ftp. If I am going out and following my plan to a "t", I won't be working harder than what is expected from the plan... so I would end up using the 2X20' (2') test anyway. When do you all bust out in a ride to get the values for a an alternate means to find your ftp? Group rides? Every time you are out? Shorter rides? For example, I'm in a transition period right now because I joined late and my OS was over when I rejoined. So I was doing a weekly 2X20' ftp workout once a week, and following a couple of sufferfest videos for 2 to 3 more rides (indoors) that would take me above my ftp for a limited time only. When I'm out on the road, I have been trying to get at least an hour and a half of riding in with longer periods at ftp and finishing with a tempo pace for the last 25-30' of the ride. Should I be busting more? Thanks.

Thank you Matt. The last paragraph was very helpful and what I was looking for.
