cda 2015 ?

thanks all for the nice and thoughtful responses to my texas race report.     I will respond soon.

so I just did ironman texas.      I have ironman Arizona later this year.     so why not do Coeur d'Alene next month ???

I only have to take two days off work.     I only have to drive five hours to get there.

I can't really think of a downside.   approach as a low pressure bonus race.      bring through my texas fitness.      I have plenty of time afterwards to relax more and shift up towards Arizona.    at worst my cda day would be more experience and a training day.

I have time to texas recover and then get in 1-2 weeks of some intensity and a bit of distance.

anyone want to spank me and say no ???

cda was my first iron in 2009.    we have done it since in 2012 so we know the new bike course.

  • There's plenty of time between IMCDA and IMAZ, but the real question is whether you can be physically AND mentally recovered enough to really make a hard effort next month. That's what you want, right? Really, it's too early to serve as a build towards Arizona so if you can't really go for it, then it's not worth it. Not saying yes or no, just a wait another week to make the call and ask yourself those questions.
  • Robin....I'm not qualified to answer/comment, but I'm going to anyway!....cuz you asked.

Looks like 6 wks between TX and CdA right?  Knowing your longevity in the sport at this distance, I suspect you'd be ok for that.  Although I don't feel like I know you really well, I know you well enough to know that you will race this and not just use it as an expensive training day.

Given the logistic ease for you, and your longstanding fitness, I think the only question is one only you can answer....can you/will you be recovered in time to perform up to your capabilities? Having only done one full, there is no way I could have repeated in 6 wks.....but you've been at this a long time and you know your body.

  • I get the impression you're hankering to make up for some level of disappointment over TX. The bigger issue, above physical preparedness, is whether you are emotionally ready to commit to an IM worthy effort on race day. No point in attempting otherwise, IMO. You can use July and early August to decompress, recuperate if need be.

Training: my two cents...you don't need a race rehearsal or long runs before, but you should keep, doing 3 & 4 hour race pace plus rides each week, along with several 2 hr plus or minus runs, as well as usual weekly bike and run "speed" sessions. Use swimming to help modulate your fatigue, meaning *you* can safely skip 1-2 swims a week and still do just fine on race day. Do an OWS weekly next 4 weeks, and whatever pool work you feel up to, but don't sweat missing those swim workouts if need be.
  • I say go it. Its the builds that suck. If you juts gonna carry over your TX build, then go for it. You know CDA. It's a fun race!
  • With very close to no idea of what I am talking about, I say do it for purely selfish reasons. You being in the field would bring down my anxiety and give me another vapor trail to chase image
  • TRY it.... You came really close to doing this a couple years ago with IMCOZ.... Here is your opportunity and its a bit more convenient !
  • I am in.         physically feel pretty good - muscles great I assume due to the slowish, for me, run at Texas.      Mentally and emotionally I am ready.        Planning my brief build.         thanks all.        mainly doing this because Doug needs me - we are specially bonded as he is the doc that did my vasectomy.   image
  • Well....that is a bond that not many care share now isn't it!
