Boulder RD Update and Swim Waves

Hey team...

I saw this new update from the Race Director on Facebook.  He mostly talks about the sprint race happening at the same time as the 70.3.  It sounds like we'll be pretty separate from them except a section where the bike courses merge.  I hope we don't hike a wall or mountain bikes swerving all over the road.  I've done a mixed race like this before.  When I'd shout "on your left!" the sprint athletes would swerve left.

It sounds like the weather has been cooler than usual and the water will be in the 65-68F range.  We've also had unseasonably cool and rainy weather in Utah.  Hoping for a cool but clear race day!

The swim waves are up.  Totally stoked that I'll be in the fourth wave.  The best part is that I get a ~24 minute head start on Mark, so I'll get to see him blur by me on the bike.

  • You will be done, showered and having cocktails before I roll in!

  • Yeah, I was wave 14 and the sprint dumped right into the finishing lane for the swim and clogged up the road leaving the Res. I got kicked in the face and the head in the last 300 yards, not when I'd expect that. There were swimmers heading horizontally across my path instead of towards the finish. I was not happy with the way that played out.
