wow. I need Help!

 Here is my deal.

"Had" to back out of IMLP this year due to business commitments. Have a great condo that I paid for in LP to the tune of 3500,

I thought my trip cancellation insurance covered me for cancelling but I was wrong image

ruh-roh.

So, today is May 3. First day of the 12 week plan. I HAVE been running (long runs are around 12 miles), little biking and little swimming. Been doing the weight training 5x/week and the runs. Still "working out" about 6-10 hours per week,

If I cant find someone to take this condo quick...I might just be on the hook for the $$. So the question...

Can I start training today and make it to IRONMAN LP if I had to?

What do you think?

Coach's thought would be AWESOME

  • I defintely think you can make it. You may not be at the same level of "triathlon" fitness as if you were coming right off the OS but you should be fine especially with where your run is. That's the hardest thing to build up.

  • I'd agree with Matt. It might not be the prettiest or fastest race ever- but you can probably do it if you want to. The question is- do you WANT to?
  • thanks folks...having a nervous breakdown trying to figure out what to do. Nemo...the true answer is that I have a bunch of life stuff going on and this year, and I don't want to. The issue is that condo...could that really be my "one thing?".
wow. A pickle I am in.
  • Personally, I wouldn't do it if I really didn't want to. I seriously mean that I'm speaking for myself. It's such a huge undertaking.

You may want to post for the condo on various tri forums like Slowtwitch and Beginnertriathlete. I would think there's a market for it.

  • Matt...I know. I am sitting here as we speak trying to figure it out. It certainly is HUGE and there are so many other things going on...
crazy situation and I do appreciate you guys coming to the rescue image

  •  If you want to do it, do it.  Believe me, walking most of 26.2 miles is long, but doable especially after a mediocre bike and you can do it under 14hrs and drink beer without much a problem. And... you won't be alone and you certainly won't be last!!!  Just ride a lot, hard, and run a lot, hard!!!  For the swim, keep your head down and follow the line at your own pace, spend the time on the bike and run.  I seriously had a great time last year for my first and can't wait to do it again with the knowledge I have now and will certainly have in the future.  But, if you don't want to do it, it will be a very long day of swearing.

    Good luck man!

  • Wanting to, and having the life where you can make that want happen, is huge. If you don't have those two things you are gonna be miserable, and not just on race day. I gotta believe there's someone out there looking for lodging that weekend who would love to take that place off your hands.
  • sigh of relief to hear you say that Nemo.
Ya...last year was incredible and I thought life would pretty much roll the same way this year. Ummm...not really. I hope that someone does need it, the place is fantastic. I have it posted here, ST and CL.
You are totally right about "not just race day". So, I guess we wait and see what happens image
Thanks for all the responses my friends.

    if you anyone image

  • today is day one of 12 week to IMLP. look in recent tonight's chat room and sift thru and two of those peeps, are doing IMLP. also I guess you posted down in IMLP thread? and IMLP camp thread? rooms were very hard to come by. I know Tracy wood is doing IMLP as well. yes you can do this IM. the plan just started, yes you can do an IM with a high LSS as well. you gotta want to do it though. you could procced with plan and see how this week goes by dropping your wts and moving into cycling and swimming. m
  • If you don't want to be there, then on race day your brain will eventually find a way to make you quit if you don't have some kind of motivation to keep you going.  I don't think the condo is going to be sufficient motivation to continue to suffer when things get difficult (it wouldn't be for me anyway, but I'm an emotional guy), and with the lower level of training going into the race you'll likely be in a situation to suffer sooner and more.  Then you're potentially looking at $3500 spent to DNF a race you didn't really want to do, and I gotta believe that's going to hurt more in the long run than just being out the money and not doing the race at all.  Just my dos centavos.
