Catherine Branch Micro Thread

Hi!  I'm on week 11 of the Beginner 1/2IM plan.  I have already applied something of a hack --> to make weekends more family-friendly, and because my job is ridiculously flexible, I have shifted all the workouts forward two days.  Today (Thursday) I am scheduled to do the 30min run/3 hr long ride, and tomorrow I am scheduled to do the ABP ride/45 min optional (mandatory for me!) run.

But ... I'm getting over a bad cold.  I've found that if I rest completely for a day or two, I can usually knock these bad boys out pretty easily.  Otherwise, they linger and more often than not turn into a sinus infection.  Yesterday was my first day back at it -- just a swim.  That said, I'm still coughing and am still a little congested.  I'm definitely going to run today, but I'm not inclined to do a hard ride that will likely cause my cold to stick around.

So ... should I do the long ride tomorrow or the ABP?  That is, bag the long ride or bag the ABP for the week?  OR do the long ride tomorrow and the ABP Saturday?  At some point I need to get back on my normal weekly schedule, but I can move the ABP to the weekend if I absolutely have to.

Thanks!

  • Let's shoot for the ABP this weekend...you have plenty of time to train for the rest of this year, it's more about recovering now...and not crashing the weekend!!

Please also look at your regular sleep patterns and make sure you are getting some good numbers (pre-illness)...it makes a difference!
  • Thanks, CoachP!  Sleep is good -- in bed by 9 at the latest and sleep until ~5:30 (whenever I wake up naturally).  I seem to get a cold like this about once every two months, so I may need to look at other things.  Having a 3 year-old germ machine doesn't help much!

  • Ah, I remember the petri dish days!!!! image
