Dang shoulder

I'm getting worried about my shoulder... dang it!  I've really just started back swimming again (after probably my longest stretch of no swimming ~ 6+ months.)  Maybe 4 weeks ago, I started the Swim Camp.  After 4 swims, and we're talking pretty easy, workouts w/ lots of drilling, my shoulder started hurting.  I backed off a couple days and have since swum 3 - 4 times.  It doesn't hurt enough to not swim (masters was kinda fun this am), but afterwards it's definitely way more sore than I've ever felt!  It's overall achy to the point of feeling like it would be a relief it it were in a sling.. yikes!  I feel sharp pain simulating highest part of recovery, more in the front part of the shoulder (but I did not feel this in the pool this am.)  Just seems to be getting more and more achy post-swim.

Frustrating, as I've never had shoulder issues in my 20+ years of tri, so don't really know how to approach this, plus I have Vineman in 5 weeks.  fyi, I'm an adult-onset swimmer and not very fast, despite years of trying (and obviously not training enough!)

Any advice would be much appreciated!  See a doc, PT, massage, specific exercises??

  • Could be biceps tendinitis. See your sports medicine doc and or PT. ice it frequently. It may be just from increase in swimming from time off.
  • Take a look at intela skins. Both mt husband and I have to wea them d/t weakness in the posterior aspect of our shoulders. They are really nice and comfortable. Get to PT ASAP.
