Changing Crankset on a P5

I am looking to change the crankset on my P5 from a 53/39 to a 52/36 and from a 172.5 - 170

also thinking of going Q-Rings.

should I consider going to 167.5?

the biggest question in looking at pre-owned cranks on ebay is if a crankset from a BB30 will fit a crankset from a BBRight?

this article suggests the answer is no - http://www.bbright.net/faq.aspx

saw one that said it would fit both, and didn't think that was possible?

any comments/ experience/ knowledge base, appreciated...

  • This is the guide I used when buying my quarq. The quarq slid right in native once I removed a spacer that had been added for Shimano 9000.

  • Unless it's the SRAM quarq BB30 crank it will not fit the spindle will be too short.

Per Dino's referenced article though I would just go with the Rotor adapter and then you can just use any crankset you want. Of the adapters I think the rotor one is the most solid.

When I built my R3 those weren't out yet so I had to glue and press the cups and play around with spacers it was a real PITA.

I've been running the rotor OCP3 on my trainer bike and really like them.  I don't know if they do anything power wise to be honest but they don't feel any worse so I'll be putting them on my R3 soon and riding the summer on them outside before moving them to the P2 for the IM build block.

My road cranks are 175 but I went with 170s on the TT bike and I think they do help open the hip angle and make for a more comfortable ride especially the really long rides where you're trying to stay aero.

  • I would think 170 will work well for you and imagine all the general guidelines for rider your(our) size indicate that as well
