Quassy Oly- 5th Time! (Just a little PR...)

After doing the Quassy HIM last year, I decided to go back to the Oly distance for the 5th time.  Last time I did it was 2013 and I had a 19 min PR.  Those types of improvements are getting harder to come by but I had some hope for my biking at least.  My swim was actually of the most concern.  It usually just "is" and I've actually been able to continue to improve by swimming less.  This year, I pushed the envelope on "less", due in part to random, mysterious shoulder issues and it showed.  My target for the bike was .90IF, I landed at .88IF w/ 1.09VI.  (In 2013, I rode closer to .81IF so isn't necessarily that I got better/faster, but I was more confident in pushing harder.)

Here's my "Quassy History":

          2010   2011    2012   2013           2015

Swim 40:32   39:05   35:06  32:24         35:43

T1                   5:44    4:50    3:35        3:41

Bike   2:03:30 1:59:49 1:57:13 1:45:25  1:40:31

T2                    3:04    3:22   1:58          2:20

Run   1:29:44 1:21:49 1:15:19 1:13:21      1:11:36

Total 4:22:25 4:09:38 3:55:51 3:36:42   3:33:51

So had I been able to maintain 2013 swim, I could've gotten sub-3:30.  Overall, pretty pleased and it really is what I expected.  Plus, I was about 8lbs heavier than 2013 so carrying the extra pounds up those hills didn't help much!  I've been focusing on the bike and letting the other chips fall where they may. That will change going forward in prep for Chattanooga but it is nice to test things....

  • Kim your progression is nothing short of amazing.... 5 min PR on the bike and 2 min PR on the run..... Over the years the biggest improvement has come from the run... Learn to "love the run".... say it with me I LOVE THE RUN ! Big congrats on todays 3 min PR , maybe I'll come back next year to watch you go sub 3:30
  • I've seen the elevation profile, that course is tough! Congratulations on the PR!
  • Kim- you're right - it's not easy to keep getting faster after all those times racing the same course so huge kudos to you for PRing this year! And don't sell yourself short, a 3' PR in an OLY is great. Doug is right...tough course and just as I did last year, I swore again yesterday that I won't go back again next year. Great seeing you and congrats.
  • Congrats on yet another PR on this course.... it really is a tough one and you have been able to shave time off every in race! Solid and consistent PRs !!

Thanks too for stepping up and being our Team Captain this year. Great job all around!
