Spinner's Pacing Questions

I've completed my testing last week and now I have these pacing zones...

Z5  10:47
Z4   11:10
Z3  11:45
Z2 11:59
Z1  13:42

So when I put these into polar flow for my speed zones it looks like this:

 Z5   < 10:47
 Z4 10:48  11:10
 Z3  11:45  11:11
 Z2  11:59 11:46
 Z1 13:42 12:00

Is this the right way to look at pacing???! I'm trying to use my Speed Zone feature on my polar M400 instead for remembering my pace. but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Let me know your thoughts!!

  • Our zones are not consecutive. In other words, Polar has z1 up to 12:00 and at 11:59 you go to Z@. If you look at your EN chart and zones you will see that there may be some rather large gaps...
  • If I were using that gadget, I'd fiddle with the paces you input so that your goal paces from the EN calculator fall in the middle of the range you are trying to hit.

    For example:

if 12:00 is Z3, then adjust so that 11:45 - 12:10 is Z3.  If 12:20 is Z2, then adjust so that Z2 is 12:11 - 12:30.  Doesn't have to be perfect, but it will tell you instantly if you're in the right zone +/- 5-10", which is fine.
