Trent's Training Plan Hurts

But he says I'll set some PR's because of all this

The plan was to stay in Madison for the weekend and drive over to Dodgeville on Saturday and Sunday for their rides. Saturday was the ride for Autism a pretty small SAG ride. We opted for the 55 mile route on Saturday. About 50 mins into the ride as I was descending on a typical Wisconsin hill - Short and steep. I THINK I reach down to my right aero bar to shift and pushed the aero bar down as I lost control of the front end and have a single snap shot in my head of the accident. I remember see the bike go left and me going right. The power tap had be somewhere between 28-30mph.

I was knocked out on impact. From the degree of pain, I've reverse engineered what was happening. My wrist took the first impact and is sprained pretty bad as of today its back to normal. The swelling is gone and is only slightly sore. I have full range of motion and can make a real fist now. My right hip took the next blow and I pretty much stuck to the pavement. Some pretty bad road rash, followed by my knee. At some point I spun around and my shoulder and head took the last blow….knocking me out. Road rash on both elbows, both knees, and both shoulder blades but just one hip. Too bad I didn't have my helmet came on

Karin found me in the middle of the hill pulling myself off the pavement. I was up and moving but the lights weren't on. I didn't know where we were, apparently I keep asking what state we were in…..I didn't know which direction we were going. I was looking up the hill and down the hill…..sorta confused. My head hurt but nothing was broken. My knees and hips were on fire though….

I fixed my aero bars and we soft peddled to the first aid station. Upon grossing out the volunteers, the que sheet had a short cut that would allow us to get back to home base. At the point, my head was clear but I wasn't really in the mood to do much riding.

I obviously skipped the Sunday Quadrupedal ride….

As of Today. The shoulder road rash is fine (never really did bother me), the elbow road rash is fine, my knees hurt mainly because of location do to flexing while walking. My hip is still gross and really bothers me because of location, basically at the pants line….

I'm standing down this week and might try and run on Friday. No swimming for week+ I'm guessing. It appears the bike is fine just some cracks in the paint…..

The Helment looks like an egg shell on the inside

  • Yikes, Hayes! I saw the pics on FB, but didn't know you lost consciousness. Did you go the ER and get your head checked out? Just want to make sure you don't have bleeding...

So, is the plan now to stand down for a week then go run a sub-15 5K?image
  • Oh Hayes- I saw the FB post too and could tell from the pictures it had to be pretty bad. Didn't realize you lost consciousness- how scary! Thank goodness for the helmet- I shutter to think where you would be without it. So glad to hear you are OK (or, going to be OK with time). Let's hope you bounce back as well as Trent!

    How is the bike?
  • I'm sure you know, but you gotta get evaluated for degree of concussion, etc. Really sorry to hear. Best for a quick recovery!
  • Hayes,

Glad to hear you are alright.  Definitely stand down until you feel better.

    Gordon

  • Wow, dude, thank goodness you had that helmet on!  Glad to hear you're doing OK, and get ready, cuz I think you're the next contestant on "Pulling a Trent"!

    Mike

  • Hayes, sorry to hear about the crash, glad you're ok.  That's scary stuff.  Get checked out and let your body heal.

    Dave

  • Glad it's the styrofoam and not your skull that looks like that.
  • "It appears the bike is fine just some cracks in the paint….."

    Phew!

    Glad you're okay too. image
  • Every time I see a picture of a helmet in that state I'm grateful that the wearer was smart enough to don it. I'm glad you're okay and healing.
  • Oh, no! That sounds like a very scary crash! I am glad you are okay. (And the bike, too.)
  • Hope you're feeling a bit better today Hayes.
  • Dude DO NOT FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE!!!   Glad to here you are OK, but should get the noggin checked if you haven't.

Give it a week and then reasses how you feel,  I'm sure the vdot bump will happen.

LOL!  If a strong blow to the head is a recipe for a Vdot bump, show me a wall to ride into!
