Bike Power Zone Calculation Tools

I noticed that the values/ranges the EN calculator Excel spreadsheet generates are different than the ones that are generated in the online version under "My Training Zones". Which one are we supposed to use when updating our zones to the Garmin?

Thanks!

Can you link to the spreadsheet here so I can take a look?

  • Wolf,

Are you looking at the Excel file "EN_Power_Racing_Calculator.xls"? If so, those "zones" are to be considered "gears" that you shift your effort/power into for racing. It's guidance to deviate (slightly) from race goal watts for uphill and downhill. The Training zones on the test calculator are for training to go longer, faster, and push your FTP higher.

If you're looking at a different calculator spreadsheet then I'm at a loss.
  • Hey Coach-

I don't know how to link or send the Excel sheet I have. I saved it to my computer after it was sent to me by someone on the team (the guy that was the Excel spreadsheet guru) in 2013 because I was using an older version of Excel at that time and was having formatting/open issues. He saved it to an older copy and sent it to me and I've been using it since then until I noticed the Bike Power Zones thing on my profile. Should I email the Excel file to you?

In the sheet itself is this video link on how to use the sheet: http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cInXoZVlMO

    Thanks!

  • Hey Charles-

No, it's not that one (I have that one as well and print it/cut it out as my reference guide) and I know which one you're referring to. It looks like this one is calculating a percentage (e.g. 70%, etc) off of the Average Power you enter from the  bike test. I'm guessing that I should just be using the online one instead of the Excel one since the  online one is the newer version of the same info?

    Thanks!

Yes, use the online version as that's correct

  • Okay, will do! Thanks!!
