Tubular Tires

I think I am one of the greenest on the endurance nation team,...so I apologize if this is a dumb question - searched the equipment wiki and could not find the answer.

OK. So we just spent time looking at the tubular zipps a friend sent me. So light!  But that is just it, tubular.

Is this a dumb idea? If I flat, then I am toast for the race, correct?

  • If it were me, I'd be toast, but apparently they can be changed, it's just tough. There's a you Tube video on changing the tubular. A few actually. I have some nice new wheels, but I think I'll be putting tubes on them.

There are many, many very good clincher tire + latex tube setups out there, no need to ride tubulars. Sorry, I'm firmly in the Friends (and Coaches) Don't Let Friends Race or Train on Tubulars. Too much potential downside, not much upside, in my opinion.
