Nutrition Guidance: 9 Day Cycle Tour

Looking for some nutrition guidance regarding my cycle tour. Do I simply approach this as I would my fuel plan concerning the bike portion of an IM? In addition, shoul I give this a decent 48 hour carbo load?

- 9 day cycle tour departing 24 June
- 8 to 10 hours a day in the saddle
- hot and humid temps
- New Orleans to Charleston (via Jacksonville or Valdosta)
- breakfasts @ hotel or Waffle House/Denny's/et
- dinners in small towns near hotel
- in ride nutrition comes from convenience stores and stash of power gels and power bars

Any ideas or input is greatly appreciated.

  • 9 days of cycling 8-10hrs a day? easy... eat your normal diet starting 2 days before to 2 days after with the exception of MUCH MORE ! I wouldn't fuel as an IM.... Stick to real food as much as you can while riding , with a focus on fluids and sodium.... Oh and make a list of anything you may deprive yourself of on a normal training regimen and treat yourself to as much as you want ! If you eat dinner early 5-7pm , make sure to snack a bit before bed .... Pre-race , and after dinner , I like to drink a bottle of coconut water with 2 scoops of carbo-pro and a saltstick (300 cals of carbs) topping off the fluids , carbs , potassium , sodium nightly ????
