Chamois Guidance for Cycle Tour

Can anyone suggest/provide guidance concerning protecting my skin in my saddle contact area?

I'm doing my second cycle tour this year. Looking at 9 days @ 8 to 10 hours a day.

My first tour I experienced severe skin tears/open wounds in my saddle area. I utilized DZ nuts but by the end of the second day, I was already tore up. I rotated two pairs of pearl Izumi padded shorts. I washed them after each use and dried them on my panniers during the ride the next day.

  • For Cycle Oregon Tours I would use Chamois Butter after I used Body Glide over the area before each ride and on the pads of your shorts too. I would also carry small packets of Chamois Butter to use every now and then. The best thing to do is get as much riding in long before your tour to get that area ready for the friction and the heat. Get out of the saddle when ever necessary too. I hope this helps.
