Weekly Weigh in for 5/5/2010

Okay, the spreadsheet is here.  I've updated it for all of May, so make sure you're in the right column.

I'm only down 1 from 2 weeks ago.  The crappy food spectacular from the weekend, along with lower activity level, probably is to blame for that.  I'm doing better again now, and with a week before leaving for Belize next Wed I'm hopeful of pulling a 2-3# loss next Wed.  Then the goal will be to not gain anything while in Belize.

  • Tony- looks to me like you are doing great. Hey, if you can maintain your weight over your trip to Belize you'll be in great shape!

I'm down 2 lbs. The scale is finally being nice to me. Really, it's just 'cause I'm finally able to run consistently again. I can bike and swim my ass off and will struggle to just maintain a reasonable weight. But give me a few weeks of running and my metabolism seems to kick back into gear.
  • @Nemo - AWESOME!!!!  Congrats!  And welcome back to the wonderful world of running!

  • I'm afraid to get on the scale. I've was hovering at 167lb for a while but I think my trip to IMSG wasnt very kind to the body comp.

One word: friggin' Iceberg thick milkshakes. Stupid thick crack, no doubt.

  • @Rich, I thought you were doing some epic riding all weekend as well... didn't that cancel out some of the milkshakes?
  • Nice job with the weight loss.

I don't have access to a scale with work travel again.  I was right around last weeks weight when I left, so I'll just call it even for this week.

  • Thanks for posting the link to the spreadsheet Tony. I finally decided to get serious about dropping weight April 1st and have dropped almost 15lbs since then. I am using a calroie counter on my iphone called myfitnesspal. There is also a website and it has helped enormously as it determines the net caloric intake needed to drop the weight I want to drop each week. I was shocked to see what kind of damage snacking can do to a diet. What a help.

I had alluded earlier in another post that I was in a deep depression upon realizing that I outweighed Matt Anacona by 100lbs. I am pleased to announce that is no longer the case! 87.7lbs and falling fast! LOL!!
  • @Mark - np, but true props still go to Gordon for really keeping this thing alive when it looked like it might die.  I'm really happy to have someone/somewhere to be accountable to and to share the ups and downs of the process.  There are a few of us using the iPhone app Loseit which is similar to what you're using.  It's made a huge impact for me because I always have my phone, their huge database of foods and the ease of creating a new food makes entering things a breeze, plus the charts help 'see' how things are going.  Combined with the 'friend' part of it where you can see Matt Ancona dropping big numbers - it helps keep you motivated.

@Rich - come on, man up marine.

  • Thanks for having this resource available - thought I'd join in the fun! I've been stuck at 151 +/- a pound for the past 6 months. I'd like to lean down to 145 or so, to take some weight off my joints and see if my run speed improves. Hold me accountable!
  • Welcome Kevin! This weekly weigh-in is either a blessing or a curse depending on what the scale says that week! Enjoy the ride
  • After seeing several months of pretty good losses, I have been hovering @ 230 for the last month or so. I am seeing gains on all the "right" numbers, like VDot, but the scale is killing me lately. Several peeps have mentioned several calorie IPhone apps, does anyone know of BlackBerry apps that are worth the time and effort?
  •  Here's your link everyone: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...&hl=en

Only dropped .8 this week.  Funny as my volume has gone up in the bike somewhat and running????  It seems when I do more work, my body tends to retain something, like all the junk that explodes in my muscles and doesn't want to leave!!!  But happy to be within 10 pounds of my high school weight!!!  Hope you all dropped this week.

  • I'm holding steady at 108. Totally happy with that right now. I'm within reach of desired race day weight. What's gonna be interesting for me to see is if I loose or gain any weight next week at TOC. Lots of riding for sure, but I have a feeling there's gonna be lots of eating too!!!
  • I'm surprised to be down 2.6 to 149.6 despite a light-exercise week. Not sure whether I can take this any further, but being accountable on here helps!
  • Well good job to everyone else.  I'm up 2lbs this week to 216.  It's a combination of several things mostly being undisciplined while travelling.  So back at it this week.

  • Travel always seems to have an impact Gordon. That's what I'm worried about too! No worries though, you'll drop those again once your in your old routine.
  • down almost 4.5 this week (226), that makes for a total of 40 in 5 months. Not too bad, but now I need new pants...again! good job everyone, keep up the hard work.
  • Woo hoo...finally got back under 180...179.6. First time this year. 5 more to go...

Nemo yes but your travel is ToC.  You should burn some calories on that trip.  My last business trip all the guys want to head to the bar as soon as the day was over.  After a couple hours there it's off to the steakhouse and huge meals.  Then this was repeated the next day.  I opted out on the second day, then there were my other breakdowns like the 5 hour delay in the airport leading to some pop, chips and peanuts...not to mention the supper I consumed as well.

@ Chuck - great job breaking through the recent barrier.  40 lbs is a lot I'm right close to that number as well but I started before the spread sheet so a longer timeframe say mid July.

  • 166lb, about 6lb more than I wanted to be by ToC. Oh well. Patrick chatted me from the plane (he's flying Virgin = wifi) wants to go for a ride this evening. We will TT (natch) = ~1300cals, tomorrow's ride will be about 1800, then the fun starts on Sunday.

Sitting here at home I'm saying I can track my cals and exercise next week and likely lose 3-4lb just from riding. All bets go out the window, though, if there are sacks of food in the vans, beers and pizza while cleaning bikes, etc.

  • Sorry to spoil it for you Rich but it will be mandatory beers, pizza, etc.. when cleaning bikes.  Weight issues will have to wait for another time.

  • Tony, can I add my name to this?  Just add to the bottom?  Don't wanr to mess up the spreadsheet.
