Thoughts on Boardman bikes

Hey all,
I can get a heck of a deal on a Boardman bike with Di2 ultregra for 35% off... Thoughts?

  • JB-

It's just my opinion but I tend to believe that the top shelf bikes are all very good/very fast. It's just a matter of fit and whether or not you can hold the right position comfortably on the top shelf bike that comes at the best price point.

I've never heard anything bad about fit or parts or customer service so that must mean something, right?

Getting a deal on a high end bike makes one's loyalty to a brand a little bit flexible image

  • +1 on what Chris said. If it fits it's really a component game and Di2 Ultegra is pretty awesome coupled with the sweet discount you won't go wrong. I think the Brownlee brothers have shown that it's a great race worthy bike ; )

I think most bike frames at a comparable price range these days will give you an awesome ride. Unless you do cheap knock-offs (read latest scary velonews article) and the frame fits you the ride ride between brands is so close that unless you are a pro you won't be able to tell.

I say go for it and send us the pics of your great new ride.
  • I agree with the above. I have never personally ridden a Boardman, but have heard nothing but great things about them. I also think they are very cool because you don't see as many of them. I love that a smaller company can compete with the big boys with huge marketing budgets by just having a good solid product... Not to mention that the Di2 on a tri bike is a game changer. If you want to spent some $$ and are itching for a new toy, I'd say go for it! (As long as it fits of course...)

And you better put pics on the Dash and in the Bike Porn thread!
  • So as of right now, i am passing on the bike. The costs started to get crazy high right now. Between, the cost of the bike, the cost of the new power meter and the cost of a new set of wheels. Even if i got a power tap with wheels, i am looking at around an additional ~$1500. So in the end, i would be spending close to $5500.

And to be blunt. my personal bike skills can improve greatly on my existing bike. Just buying a new toy will not solve the issue of my lower FTP.
