Never healing stubbed pinkie toe…Help!

Looking for some advice…any advice.  The Tuesday before IM70.3 Syracuse (6/21) I stubbed my pinkie toe (barefoot) in my garage.  After a few yelps of pain, I brushed it off and went about my day.  Within the hour after the stubbing, the toe swelled up and turned all different shades of lovely colors.  I iced, elevated, compressed and rested for a few days (aka no running).  Taped my toes together to get through the race and was fine running on it but after it throbbed and was really sensitive to the touch.  It continues to throb and is very sensitive to the touch still. Strangely, it hurts more to walk on it then it does to run. Im constantly on my feet throughout the day so complete rest and elevation is impossible.

I hate to sound like a complete wimp, but Im starting to get concerned that it will never heal.  Anyone have this happen to them?  Did you continue to train (most importantly run)?  Any advice on how to expedite the healing?

Thanks for your help!

  • It's probable that you broke it and not surprising it hurts more to walk. Ensure it is taped to its buddy, ice a few times a day for 15-20 min. If not slowly feeling better over the next week (that would be three weeks total) consider a doc visit and X-ray. It's possible the break was not a simple one and it may need a pin.
  • Thanks for the feedback Leslie! I am just going to play it safe and see a dr to hopefully rule out a break. I pray no pin will be needed...ouch!
  • So...what eveR happened with the toe.. Inquiring minds want to know!
