Special Needs Bag

I was reading that some halfs use special needs bags and some don't. Does Racine? Just want to make sure I am preparing correctly? Thanks, I couldn't find anything either way in the info.

Everyone ready??

  • I didn't see anything in the race guide about it, assume no. I haven't heard of them besides at fulls.
  • OK, that is what I was assuming but just wanted to make sure I was planning correctly. Thanks!
  • Christi, None of the Ironman 70.3 I have done use special needs bags. I have done Racine 3 times and you really don't need it.

  • Thanks! Learn something new every day!
  • Yup. No special needs at half distance races.

It brings up a good point, though, about planning what or what not to carry with you. For what it's worth, I argue for simplicity, which means that I carry a bag behind my stem that has a spare tube and tools, plus two bottles...and nothing else. I live on course calories. If you want to bring some "food" of your own, you need to find another place to stash your spare tube than the single bag...perhaps under the saddle.
