Shorts - Do you change?

Do you gals change shorts between the bike and the run in an IM? I have been using actual biking shorts for training but would rather not have to change shorts between the bike and run so I am thinking maybe I should stop training in biking shorts. Got a new bike about a month ago and had a true fitting and my saddle soreness has been less but not perfect. Just wondering what everyone else does.

Thanks,

Cristi

  • I have changed into run shorts in the past and will probably continue to do so. I wear tri shorts on the swim and bike, then change into running shorts, mostly just to have a "fresh start" feeling. It takes very little time!

The bigger issue with wearing actual bike shorts and not tri shorts I would think would be the swim? Do you plan on putting them on after the swim? Getting anything tight on while wet is tough! And swimming in them would probably not be recommended...

I have found that good tri shorts are really just as comfy (or more) than bike shorts. I always thought a bigger pad had to be better, but not so much. I still train in bike shorts most the time, but do my race rehearsals in tri shorts, or when I need to do laundry! I just got the Coeur tri shorts and love them! Highly recommended!
  • I wore bike shorts for the swim and bike at IMMT last year and then changed into my favorite running shorts for the run. The change felt great and didn't take much time. I didn't have any issues on the swim. IM is a long ride and I had to go with comfort. In shorter races I go with tri shorts.
  • I have never changed shorts in a tri and don't plan to do so at IMWI. That said, I believe in "train how you race" and therefore have done all of my rides this year in tri shorts, including all long rides. If you train in bike shorts and do all your running in running shorts, I would stick to that plan for the race for sure.
  • Btw just noticed this is the women's forum. Sorry for posting. I saw the thread on the dashboard and didn't realize it was in the women's forum.
