Does outdoor FTP compare to trainer?

I did 2x20 min Z4 today (305,283) outside, beating my best 20 min FTP (284 indoors). It was rolling terrain. The second interval was on the way back, slightly more descending. Is the 305 still legit? Or is it not apples to apples?

Is 305w legit as what? As your FTP? Probably not, though certainly close enough for training purposes. If it were me, I'd probably call my FTP 295w, enter that into my gadgets (Garmin, whatever tracking software you use, if you do that) and then benchmark that workout for next week. IE, you did 305 and 283 this week, which tells me that 305 was a little hot. Next week try 295w for the first one and then best effort for the second interval.

More importantly, ^this^ is an outdoor session and these numbers are really only applicable to rides outside. Given how many more watts you put up outside vs inside, would be valuable for you to continue to do this session outside, if possible
