First Sweat Test Results

I'm a little confused what to do with my sweat test results.  Here they are:

Prior to start of test, weighed in naked with only gel bottle in my hand: 162.0 lbs

Also prior to start of test,  weighed in naked with gel bottle and full water bottle in my hand: 163.6 lbs

After completion of test, weighted in naked (after drying off) with remaining gel in bottle: 161.0 lbs

Also after completion of test, weighted in naked (after drying off) with remaining gel in bottle and empty water bottle: 161.6 lbs

Following the instructions, I should take 162.0-161.0 = 1.0 lbs lost x 16-24 oz for total required oz of liquid of 16-24 oz per hour.  Is this right?  This seems like it is not enough.

If I use the weights where I held the water bottle also I would get 163.6-161.6 = 2.0 lbs x 16-24 oz for a total required oz of liquid of 32-48 oz per hour.  This seems more like the right value but this is not how the instructions said to do it.

Can someone help me?

Thanks,

Brandon

  • 162.0-161.0 = 1 lb of water NET loss during the test. BUT during the test, you put in 1 bottle (24 oz?). So you would have the 16 to 24 oz to make up for your 1 lb lost, PLUS whatever you put in during the test. And that would give you your hourly consumption rate.If that bottle you drank during the test was 24 oz, then you should be consuming a total of 40 to 48 oz.

Also, as a fellow south coast guy outside of Houston, IT'S FREAKIN HOT!! So dont cut your intake short.
  • Well duh! Sorry for the dumb question. I'm embarrassed to have missed that. 40-48oz sounds much more believable to me. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

Two bottles an hour is what I always tried to take in prior to the test so I guess I was on the right track, unknowingly.
  • Dude, no such thing as a "dumb" question, when it comes to this sport. "Dumb" questions can lead to some pretty good breakthroughs. With all the technology and research that goes into the body, the answers could change from day to day. So asking a "dumb" question could actually inspire a great conversation this week, that it didn't inspire last week. Always ask. And the folks around here are much more helpful than in other forums. So don't feel embarrassed to ask for help.
