Total re-group needed

Hi Coach,

Talk about a season crashing and burning. I had a great out season... followed by a wonderful new job offer. My last 12 weeks have been spent learning a new role and trying to cling to the vestiges of my out season gains. Raced two sprints and obviously they weren't my best, they were not horrible.  I have bailed on Timberman HIM,  I just don't have the endurance for the long course, nor the time to get there.

That being said, can you recommend a training plan that will have me maintaining sprint distance fitness for the summer. I just want to enjoy training and maybe participate in a couple of more races, but not expecting much.  I have a Half Marathon around Halloween that I would still like to perform respectably in.

I'll re-access in the late fall about what I do next year.

thanks, Marian

  • Marian, thanks for the update. Life works in mysterious ways...I hope you like the new job. Most important of all is you recognizing that there is a limit to what you are capable of (so you don't bury yourself). I think that you should load up the short course training plan to end on your next short course race -- the workouts are short and effective and will help you keep your fitness up. That said, if the weekend is nice and you want to ride/run longer (and a bit easier) you can do that too!!!

Given your HM goal in October, you'll want to maintain or build up a "long" run in the 60' range so we can launch into more of a run specific plan come September!
